Tips For The Best Crispy Tofu

For the best results, follow these simple tips to perfect your Crispy Tofu every time:

  • Press the tofu well: Removing excess moisture is key to getting that golden crisp exterior.

  • Use cornstarch: Tossing tofu in cornstarch creates a perfectly crunchy coating.

  • Don’t overcrowd the pan: Space the cubes out on the baking sheet or skillet so they crisp instead of steam.

  • Air-fryer friendly: This tofu crisps up beautifully in the air fryer at 400ºF for about 15–18 minutes.

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Sheet Pan

Ingredients

  • 12 oz Firm or Extra Firm Tofu
  • 3 tbsp Soy Sauce or Tamari
  • tsp Mushroom Seasoning
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch

Instructions

  • Drain and press your block of tofu for at least 20 minutes. If you don’t own a tofu press, wrap the tofu in a kitchen towel and place a large pot or pan on top of the tofu as a press.
  • Preheat your oven to 425℉. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  • After your tofu is pressed, cut the tofu into small cubes and add to a mixing bowl. Then add the soy sauce or tamari and mushroom seasoning. Toss gently to coat the tofu. Once the tofu is coated, add the cornstarch and toss to ensure the tofu is covered in cornstarch.
  • Pour the tofu onto the baking sheet in a single layer. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes, then remove and toss the tofu, so it can cook evenly. Then return to the oven and cook for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, or until the tofu has reached your desired level of crispness.
  • Add to a grain bowl, stir-fry, or salad*! Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
